OWASP is frequently referred to by pen testers and security professionals for industry best practices when discussing web app pen testing.  They have created a Top 10 that is updated every 2-4 years.

Why You Should Care - 

There was a time when networks got all the attention for security and pen tests, yet web apps flew under the radar, and even now, they can get overlooked.  There is a significant risk to organizations should an attacker get access via web apps.  OWASP is free and open, making it an extremely reliable and widely-used resource and standard.
