What to Know -
Ransomware is a type of malware that infects a network and accesses files. Once it gains access, it denies or blocks the organization's ability to access the files through encryption unless it meets the attacker's stipulations. However, paying the ransom does not guarantee full restoration of files - there are no guarantees with criminals.
Why You Should Care -
Any type or size of an organization is susceptible to ransomware. Knowing the ways ransomware is spread helps organizations protect against it. Planning ahead with backups and a proper incident response plan can help recover with minimal disruption and impact.
